Growing up I remember the Pepsi Challenge when Pepsi conducted taste test to show that their product was superior to that of Coke. I recall Pepsi beating out Coke in taste test after taste test. I would watch news stories where some argued that the taste test were fixed in an effort to discount the validity of Pepsi. Nevertheless, Pepsi sells soared and in an effort to regain their footing Coke came up with a new marketing strategy.
Coca Cola came out with New Coke.
New Coke had a sweeter taste than the original flavor. Yet, when New Coke hit the market their long time customers reacted in backlash. The customers loved Coke the way it was before any changes had been made. They didn’t need it to change. They just wanted it to stay original.
The Senior Leadership admitted their mistake and reintroduced the original formula and advertised it as Coca Cola Classic with a slogan of “Can’t Beat the Real Thing”.
Realize that you don’t need to change the core essence of who you are to compete with others. All you have to be is your best you. To be honest you are in a league of your own and when the ultimate goal is to be the best you that you can be, you will find that there can be no competition.
Being a better person involves loving yourself for who you really are. The real you, not the you that you pretend to be, not the you that naysayers told you that you were, or suggested you should be, but the real you.
Being who you are, the way you are called to be is what life seeks from you. When you stop with the imitating, people will love the real you and they will want you to stay true to yourself. They will not accept a false version of you. When you love yourself for who you are, the way you are and recognize no one can “do you” better than you can you will soar and your stock will rise.
When Coca Cola went on to embrace it’s original flavor it went on to dominate the beverage industry. They did this not by changing who they were but by recognizing they already where a good product. They expanded their product line, showed pride in who they were and stayed true to their core self.
You don’t have to “change” to become a better you. Rather you need to un-become all of the imitations that you have tried to market yourself as and embrace your real flavor. Stop listening to the voices of those who have told you that you need to change your essence. Your core self is and always will be beautiful. Being your best self isn’t about change it is about acceptance. It is acceptance of your true self.
All you have to do is just “be” and love who you are the way you really are. Your original flavor is superior to any new formula you could ever possibly conjure up. Improving yourself doesn’t involve changing yourself in the sense of becoming like someone else in an attempt to please others and/or gain acceptance. Improving yourself involves loving the original you and fully accepting the original you.
Over time many of us don’t even know who we really are. We lose sight of ourselves and at some point to get back to square one we have to work to find our original recipe because we have spent so much time trying to compete with others. We have tried to change our taste to fit the palate of people who will never love us. If we would simply stay true to ourselves we will attract the people we were always destined to have in our lives and they will cherish us.
Love yourself enough to stay classic, stay original and stay true to your original formula. When you take pride in how you were originally created you will separate yourself from the negative parts of you that you have allowed others to layer on you, and like Coca Cola you will find loyalty and success in the market of your life.
Everyone is not going to love you, but when you are genuine and true to yourself the people that are drawn to you are going to love you and will not accept a substitute. You fit their palate perfect and they will love everything about you. They will love all the subtle hints of sweet, bitter, salty, sour and umami that you possess and they will love you completely.
Becoming a better you isn’t about changing into something else it is about embracing the real you. The you that hides underneath the hurt, the pain, the anger, the sadness, the pride, the arrogance, the heart break and the rejection. The you that keeps ego in check, the you that loves their originality.
Thus, when you love your originality you don’t have to compare yourself to others because you recognize that no one on the face of the earth can outdo you. When you embrace yourself you will expand and you will grow by leaps and bounds.
Others will be drawn to you like a magnet. They may not be able to be explain what they love about you in words but they will be able to explain that when they are with you and when they are around you that they enjoy you.
They will forever remember you because you are an original and no one will be able to replicate you. So love yourself enough to be who you are. Don’t compete with others and become a false self. Don’t hold on to the negative aspects of your life, work to release them so that you can get down to the your original formula.
Recognize that much like Coca Cola Classic, when it comes right down to it “You Can’t Beat the Real Thing!”
